In just a few short years, Velocity has gained recognition as a provider of leading edge, software-driven solutions enabling the clinical use of oncology imaging for the assessment of therapeutic targets. Our belief in tailored patient treatment is only realized through the use of better imaging tools that allow physicians to be at the forefront of implementing novel cancer therapies.

Velocity innovations have reshaped the oncology PACS domain with image storage and registration technology as the backbone of the technology. Some innovations, such as the automated contouring tools, have merely been improvements to existing Velocity products. But others, such as multi-modality deformable image registration, have been truly revolutionary in the way they've reshaped physician expectations for adaptive therapy and response assessment. Velocity's innovations that relate to improving clinical efficiency and patient outcomes include:

Multi-modality deformable image registration
From the very start, Velocity has always recognized that oncology imaging was truly multi-modality. Physicians rely on diagnostic imaging of PET, SPECT, CT, MR and other molecular imaging methods to target and effectively plan the treatment. During treatment, the use of image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) creates CBCT images which have artifacts and noise in the images. Due to the artifacts, CBCT fusion to planning CT images is not a mono-modality problem. It is a multi-modality problem that must be addressed with sophisticated scientific algorithms. The incorporation of MR-CT fusion during treatment planning has also required unique deformable image registration approaches. While Velocity acknowledges that image registration is an approximation to a problem, our software solutions are geared to improve clinical decision making by reducing the uncertainties of treatment planning and response assessment.

Centralized image storage and management
The use of PACS for image storage and management revolutionized the way radiologists interacted with digital imaging data. The use of PACS for disease-site specific domains has needs that are beyond the traditional radiology PACS. At Velocity, we planned from the beginning to build image storage and management directly into the clinical oncology workflow with our VelocityGRID platform. Our idea was built around the team concept for treating cancer patients. Physicians and clinical staff each touch the patient imaging data at different points along the patient treatment cycle. Using this principle, Velocity built VelocityGRID to include the best of PACS features for oncology combined with centralized data storage with automated imaging analytics. VelocityGRID is truly beyond PACS. VelocityGRID has created an oncology imaging lifestyle management system for enhanced treatment planning and response assessment.

Quantitative imaging for therapy response assessment
Molecular imaging such as PET, MRI and SPECT is now used as a standard of patient care. However, there is a lack of software tools for oncologists to easily develop cancer treatment plans and assess response to therapy using molecular imaging. Our innovation was to create a software platform, VelocityAI, to seamlessly incorporate the massive amount of diagnostic imaging and treatment information. By delivering imaging and planning information instantly in the clinical environment, physicians can evaluate imaging data anywhere and at anytime. Oncologists are now able to easily map the followup molecular imaging data with the RT treatment plan and dose to assess the patient's response to therapy.
